What do I need to do to prepare for my installation?
We ask that you remove all furniture, decor, and breakable items from the rooms where we will be working. We can coordinate with your painter if walls are being painted, but all other work should be complete. We will handle the removal of your old flooring and all subfloor preparation.
How long does a new hardwood installation take?
This depends on the size of the area, the type of wood, and the complexity of the layout. A typical installation (e.g., 500-1000 sq. ft.) often takes 2-4 days. If we are also sanding and finishing unfinished wood on-site, the entire process can take 5-7 days due to drying times.
What's the difference between pre-finished and site-finished hardwood?
- Pre-finished: The planks arrive from the factory already sanded, stained, and sealed with a highly-durable finish. The installation is faster and cleaner, as there is no sanding or fumes.
- Site-finished (Unfinished): We install the raw, unfinished wood planks first. Then, we sand the entire floor smooth, apply your custom stain color, and seal it on-site. This gives you a perfectly uniform, table-top smooth finish and limitless color options.
Should I choose solid or engineered hardwood?
It depends on your subfloor and location. Solid wood is a timeless classic, but it’s not recommended for basements or concrete slabs. Engineered wood is more dimensionally stable, making it the perfect choice for concrete subfloors, areas with higher humidity (like kitchens), or over radiant heat. We will inspect your home and recommend the best option during your consultation.
