Our signature refinishing process uses state-of-the-art dust containment systems to keep your home clean while we work. We don’t just “buff” your floors; we perform a complete restoration.
- Dustless Sanding: We use powerful vacuums attached directly to our professional-grade sanders to capture the vast majority of airborne dust. We sand your entire floor down to the fresh, raw wood, completely removing the old finish, deep scratches, and most stains.
- Custom Staining: This is your chance to change your home’s entire look. We’ll apply stain samples directly to your sanded floor so you can see how they look in your home’s natural light. Whether you want a rich, dark espresso, a light and airy “natural” look, or a trendy gray, we’ll find the perfect color.
- Durable Topcoat Application: To protect your floor, we apply multiple coats of a premium, commercial-grade polyurethane finish. This clear topcoat provides maximum durability against scratches and spills and is available in your choice of sheen, from a modern matte to a classic semi-gloss.
Refinishing: Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really dustless?
We call it “dustless” because our sanding equipment is connected to high-powered HEPA vacuum systems that capture over 95% of the dust generated. While it’s not 100% dust-free (some fine dust may settle), it is a world of difference from traditional sanding. You will not come home to a cloud of dust or find your cabinets and furniture covered.
Do we have to move out of our house?
It depends. While the sanding process is clean, the finishes we use can have a strong odor (VOCs). We recommend staying elsewhere during the 2-3 days when the stain and polyurethane are being applied and are drying, especially if you are sensitive to smells. We also offer low-VOC water-based finishes that have a much milder odor and dry faster.
How long does the refinishing process take?
A typical project (e.g., 800-1500 sq. ft.) takes about 3 to 5 days.
- Day 1: Sanding
- Day 2: Staining & First Coat of Finish
- Day 3: Buffing & Second Coat of Finish
- Day 4: Final Coat (if needed)
When can we walk on the floors and put furniture back?
- Walking (in socks): You can typically walk on the floor 24 hours after the final coat.
- Furniture: You can place furniture back 72 hours after the final coat. Do not drag furniture; it must be lifted.
- Area Rugs: You must wait 1-2 weeks for the finish to fully cure before placing any area rugs.
